Tipton vs. Riley

I currently have a 6 pos chip from diesel site. Has anyone ever compared the difference between a the tipton programs and the riley programs. I have the stock, hi-idle, 50hp, 75hp, 100hp, and extreme settings. I am happy with what I have I currently get about 19 mpg in the 100hp setting driving about 70mph. Thoughts on pros and cons of both?

While you'll probably be happy with either, I prefer the Tipton programs. That's all he does. I don't know the cons to either, I've only dealt with Jody, and I love the performance of his chip. But, I can say that I've called Jody numerous times to seek advice on other mods besides just the chip, and he's always got time to talk, answer my questions, and make suggestions. His level of customer service has gone above and beyond what is necessary for his business. As far as I'm concerned, he's the only one who will be programming my truck from now on.

Here's some chip info from another source:

"Along time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Steve Cole was prolly one of the first "custom" tuners. Not sure if it was him or Bill Cohron. Steve still runs his business TTS Performance, Bill did some tuning for Superchips and then went out on his own with Diesel Power chips.

Dennis Perry started TS performance back then sometime as well. Dennis is the manufacturer of the chips you see for sell, with the exception of Superchips who still makes their own.

Bill with Diesel Power went to work for Edge Products and dissolved the company and Jody started DP-Tuner and Bill and Jody reached an agreement to have Jody continue to provide service to his dealers (post edited I was wrong about Bill selling his business) and some of us have surmised that the DP stands for Diane's Programing

Bob sells the same 6 position chip that Dennis sells at ITP Diesel, that Jody sells, that Ts Performance sells and so on, only they have different programing on them.

I do believe that Dennis Perry does the programing for Bob at Dieselsite (not 100%) and these programs were built for Bob.

There is a handful of other custom tuners and a boatload of resellers of the different tuners. TS Performance has their dealer base, DP-Tuner has their dealer base and so on. Obviously the TS Performance dealers use Dennis Perry's programing and DP-Tuner's dealers use Jody's programing.

While Jody is definately one of the top programers in the country, he was not the first."

Wow JT that took some homework to dig up all that. A little history is always fun to know.

Well Kwik, I wish I could take credit for digging all that up, but alas I merely found it and posted it for others to see. Good stuff to know anyway.

Haha...I was around for all of that. In fact, Bill Choron wrote my programming. Dunno what he's doing now, but he is , was, and ever shall be the master of hexidecimal code.

No. He shouldn't. It's my understanding that Jody will only reprogram Jody's chips. But, I'm not Jody, so your best bet is to call him and get an answer directly from him. Jody's phone number: 828-221-0076
