I think that my water pump is leaking. at first I thought it
was just a loose clamp, but then noticed that the fluid was
coming down the hose from up by the pump. I can't tell for
sure, but the leak seems to be coming from the bottom of the pump
itself. Is this a common occurrence? I can get a reman. pump for
$18, but I want to be sure that the leak is actually from the
pump. Can it be pressure tested somehow? (It never froze, by the way)

It's often hard to tell for sure where a leak is coming from in that area, but assuming you carefully checked the hoses then I recommend you get the reman. pump, as this is likely a leaky pump, but only you can tell for sure. There is a small hole on the underside of the pump. When the seal goes, coolant spews out this hole. You may see the remnants of this leak when you remove the pump. $18 is pretty cheap insurance though anyway. Every have a water pump fail while on the interstate?

Thanks, it does appear that it's leaking from that little
hole on the underside of the pump. I'll take that $18 right
on over to NAPA.
Thanks again,
Scott
new pump is worth it. My pump on my 300 6cyl looked like it was leaking, but slight seep from heater hose connection was all that it was. The old days of just repacking the water pump on the Model A are gone, maybe thats a good thing!
