I'm planning on putting '66 289 heads on my current '82 302. Sure they don't flow as well as aftermarkets, but their as good as E7TE's. Besides, I got them in my garage already, so that means nno additional costs. They are a vast improvment over my current D8AE's with 69cc combustion chambers and 8.4:1 compression smogged to heck.
Only problem is that with the 289's 54.5 combustion chambers, that'll bring my compression up to about 10:1.
Do you think 10:1 is too much for 93 Octane pump gas. The heads will be stock and I'll be running a Summit cam (PN SUM-K3600, 204/214 Duration @ 0.050 and .448/.472 Lift)
That's doable (barely). What did you figure for head gasket thickness? Seems to me I found some that were around .056 compressed, that should help lower it a bit.
I run my 68 Merc's 390 on 89 and it's got 10.25 to 1. Cam is a Crane 272 degree Energizer. You may be pushing it with that Summit cam. It's more of an RV type grind for lower compression engines.
