Exhaust, Tune and Intake

Has anybody seen any good mileage gains from an Air Intake and Exhaust and computer tune. My friend told me he got extra 5 MPG.

I figure on the highway I might have gained a 1mpg increase with my exhaust.

I have a drop in K&N, exhaust, and tonneau and I noticed an increase in gas mileage as well. I gained about 2 MPG and that is with the bigger tires.

On my 2005 5.4 4x4 I just added EDGE tuner, AirRaid modular Tube, drop in K&N, and Bassani single exhaust. ITS LIKE HAVING A WHOLE NEW TRUCK!!!

Gas mileage is only up 1 mpg or at the moment, but I can say I am driving a little harder than normal... enjoyin the new feel. I bet once I slow down I get 2-3 more MPG than I used to if I keep it under 2k takeoff and under 65 on the highway.

I also have a truxedo low pro tonneau cover but the mpg gains that I have mentioned were just since the K&N drop in and the Magnaflow sido. I had the exhaust done at a local shop all stainless with the duals coming out on the rear of both wheel wells. I tow a trailer and did not want the exhaust going back at the boat/trailer old school style I guess. I also just ordered the excalibrator2 with the custom tunes. I was very close to buying the Edge I hpe I don't regret the decision will know soon.

I have a 2005 fx4 with the 5.4l . Edge tuned magnaflow SI/SO. I cant say im getting better gas mileage but it woke this big truck up. The more mods you add the harder you drive.

this is very true. After getting my Flowmasters, I tend to hit the gas harder just to hear the truck roar!!!

I was interested in getting the K&N air intake 63 series but I see many of you just have the drop in filters. Is getting just the drop in air filter almost as good as the air intake? I don't want to spend the extra money on the air intake if it's not going to produce the results that it boasts on the website.

I have seen quite a few thoughts on how little is gained on a basicaly stock engine with the full intake setup. It might be just the way I drive but I think gains from idle to maybe 3800 rpm are the ones I would feel the most. I think some of the gains that are talked about are up in the higher rpm ranges they are a gain but not where I think I would feel or benefit from the power. I like the feel of my drop in filter and magnaflow cat back sido and am hoping I will see this really come alive when I get the excalibrator 2 and the three custom tunes

If you are looking for mpg gains, a tuner like the Edge Evolution and a Tonneau are your best bets, and yeild the most usuable gains for the buck.

Exhaust is more of a sound mod, and a intake won't net much if any untill RPM goes north of 4000. How often do you drive down the road with the accelerator floored?

Tuner ~$350
Tonneau ~$100 and up
Exhaust ~$250 up
Intake ~$250 up

Doesnt take too long to burn $1000 to gain a "possible" 1-3 mpg.....

I have done the exhaust on my new 2005 5.4 and my old truck a 91 302 and both not only sounded better but there was a gain of at least 1mpg and yes it does sound alot better the magnaflow is great performing looking and sounding. the toneau is a big gas saver probably the best. I hope the tuner will make a good overall differnce especially with the custom tunes one of the tunes is for 87 octane towing not just a shift only as the canned tunes are. I will know shortly like next week. The edge has a nice set of gauges I almost went with it mostly because of the gauge pod and it seems to be a good tuner but the price on the excal 2 and custom tunes was only $25 more so I will see if it is worth it.

I just got the Edge from DiscountPowerParts.com and I love it!! Its on transmission mode (1) and the truck is a totally different ride. It shifts very smoothly and even on hills, the truck does not downshift randomly and ever so often. It rides much much smoother and I can't wait to dump this 87 octane that I have left (yes burned half a tank tonight driving around) and fill her up with 93 octane to try out the high performance mode!!! I love the fact that it looks factory and you have the option to change colors as well. The tach helps as well since my STX cluster does not have one and I can finally keep an eye on my RPMs. Also other temperature gauges and tire size calibrator is an awesome function!!! I just LOVE IT!!

The gauge pod is cool I like the looks of it I have a tach on my lariat screw and the info center I have heard somewhere on here that you can get a lot of different info from the ford info center digital tach and such. Wish they sold the gauge pod separate I like the high tech toys lol. Next week for the Excal 2 and I am getting a set of summer tires 275/55/20 Hankook ventus I am still looking at wheels just know I want forged aluminum any ideas out there
