Hey guys, is there anyone around that knows exactly how to build a computer? I am building one for the first time and just need to ask some complete newbie building questions, thanks!
It is kind of an all around computer, I bought everything for it allreaddy, just have a few weird kind of questions about installing the motherboard! Seems like my motherboard has 9 screw holes for it, and my case has 6 risers, So I was just curious do I need to go buy three more risers to mount the motherboard on, or will it be fine with just the 6.
It will probably be just fine with 6 as long as the whole board is supported.
I've built a few computers in my time but it was a number of years ago. I no longer have the paitence or desire to try and get all the individual parts working. And like Bob Ayers said, it is worthconsidering a pre-fab. If you still want to build one for the fun of it you might want to try a website like:
Ok perfect, Now does a guy have to put anything behind the motherboard, where it connects to the case? Like washers or some sort? In my kit it came with washer but I assumed they go under the screw, between the head of the screw and the mobo.
Just be sure that the mobo isn't grounding out on the case. I had that happen on my first build. The guys n gals in the forums at www.pcmech.com helped me out alot.
If you aren't using all the risers for the mobo mounting holes, be careful when plugging stuff in, if there isn't support, the mobo could potentially break.
make sure there is nothing behind the mobo then you put it in; (screws, etc. - whistles).
Make sure the CPU is in the mobo BEFORE the power supply is plugged in to AC, that way there will be no chance to turn it on without a CPU in the board - resulting in a dead mobo. (whistles)
I got the asus p5nd2-sli Mobo. Got er all together, just not quite sure I have all the fans hooked up right, or the front panel stuff hooked in the right slots!
just refer to your motherboard manual for help. The USB order should be red, white/yellow, green, then black. I've done this a thousand times, so send me a PM if you need anything at all.
