here is what we got
89 f250 (351w overdrive) long bed
73 jeep cherokee chief (fulsize 2 door)
truck is cosmetically trashed so no chance of rebuild
jeep is perfect but bad motor
im going to put the ford running gear in the jeep and was trying to decide if i should keep the efi or go to a carb. i have both setups so parts are no problem.
the truck runs great but it wont rev past about 2500 or 3000 rpms, it just flattens out and bogs down. other than that its great. if i keep the efi i have the hole truck so im not worried about the parts.if i can figure out the problem with the efi ill keep it. it would be cool to have the efi in the jeep.
If i go to the carb i will need to figure out how to hook up the tv cable to the carb.
any help or suggestions will be apreciated............eddie
It sounds like the engine is starving for fuel. Try a new fuel filter first since it's the cheapest and easiest to fix. If the problem still exists, put a fuel pressure guage on the test port and have a friend rev the engine. If the fuel pressure drops, the fuel pump may be getting weak and may need to be replaced. Check a shop manual for your truck to confirm, fuel pressure should be around 39psi. I like those old Cherokees. I've never had one, but have always thought they looked cool. Keep us posted on the project with some pictures.
this will be the tow rig for ................
THIS it is now 460 powered and almost done so i need a tow rig.the tires are 53 inch tall millitary tires with 2.5 ton rockwells.
The biggest problem you would have keeping the truck EFI would be the tall upper intake. You can get another intake setup but it's not going to be dirt cheap.
i noticed that the intake looked alittle tall but i think it might fit. the engine bay is deeper than it looks on the jeep. if it doesnt fit how about a mustang intake.
When you fabricate the engine mounts, you could play with the dimensions to allow the engine to sit low enough for the intake to clear. Could even swap to a different oil pan/pickup tube combo to allow more room. As far as using the mustang intake, it's kinda restrictive even for the 5.0. Then you may have issues with the throttle body etc. Since you have a 5.8 and you'll also be pulling a trailer, I'd do everything I could to use the truck intake. The longer runners really help with the low rpm torque. Nice pictures. It looks like it's in good shape. It should be a fun project.
i was pondering the idea of sitting the jeep body onto the truck chassis. the frames are very close in size and shape. ofcourse i would have to shorten the frame but thats easy.the trac width of the ford is just alittle wide by an inch or so but i was thinking about a pre runner look to it. but maybe not just a thought, lol.
Check the timing on that engine - could be why it only goes to 3000 rpm or so. If you forgot to remove the SPOUT connector while timing it, the timing will be wrong and can cause this symptom.
im going to try the exhaust tomarow hopefully this fixes it.
anyone with ideas on the wiring harness
its going in a mid 70s truck so all ill need is what the motor needs to run.
i hate wireing
