Hello, new member. I have a 76 Bronco Explorer w/ a 351W with a Carter AFB 625, that is built for extreme off road use, & Jeep Jamboree's ( ya, the Jeeps hate it! ) I have a problem when climbing extreme inclines of stalling out, loading up and dying out. NOT GOOD! I am going to purchase a new carb for my upcoming motor rebuild and have been hearing good things about the new "Holley series Truck Avenger Carbs" Anyone used these carbs in steep incline/decline situations? I am still leaning towards the New Rochester Q-Jets which I have also heard have no flooding problems for inclines. Your expereinces would be appreciated.
Sorry I can't help, but I was wondering... did your old carb have needles designed for off road in it? Reason why I am asking is because I have an Edelbrock on my 302 and was thinking about installing some. Btw I like Jeeps to, but not as much as 66-77 Broncos! Actually, I used to own one befor the Bronco!
so much work was done to the carb I honestly don't remember nicholas, but my gut sez yes. The edelbrock & Carter are damn near identical, so i believe while it will help you a tad, it's prolly not as good as just getting a carb designed for the steepness. i bought the Carter new and while the performance aspect is great, ( my past experiences in my street car) the off-road capabilites are limited due to up & down factor, (Extemes)
You know..... My girlfriend just bought me a 76 Bronco to fix up and play with, I cant wait until I get some time to do so. But my comment is about the Carter. I have a 78 Fullsize Bronco with a 429 and I am running a Carter AFB on my truck, and I havent had any problems with the carb at all. It has loaded up a bit once that I can remember, but never died out. I havent done any thing major like Rock crawling with it, but some serious hill climbing and it never once failed me.
check into the b.c broncos q-jet. i think you will be pretty amazed.
price vs product comparing the new holly and this q-jet. ive seen some pretty impressive angles while ina bronco with a b.c. bronco q-jet and i thought he had fuel injection untill he popped the hood. not only one bronco but on a minimum of 15 broncos that were at the round-up. its a pretty amazing carb that chuck sells.
You need a stock 2 bl motor craft carb I have ran one on a comp. rig it is as good as you can get with out going with E.F.I. good luck lucasrestorations.com if you need any more info
