Hi guys,
Has anyone seen a diesel engine for the Ranger pickup lately? A good friend of mine bought one new in 1983 and we both would like to find one! I was kind of hoping to find a crate engine to put in a mid eighties Ranger 4X4. Anyone have any thoughts on this kind of engine swap?? Thanks for any input in advance,
Regards, Joel
Diesels haven't been in North American Rangers in quite some time. If you could find an old one and rebuild it, you could drop it in. 1983...I'm not even sure if that's late enough for the Ranger to be it's own model and not just an option.
Remember, anything can be made to fit, it's just gonna take some modification. You'll need the tranny and transfer case from the new diesel though.
I sure loved my 83 diesel. It was the 2.2, not a fireball but tremendous fun. It died of an unnoticed coolant leak while loaned to a friend. Cracked the head between valves on center two cylinders.
You have one? Where is Hudson Fla? I'd like to see it just for nostalgia!
To Shack's question - does anyone know if there's SAE standards for bell housings? Might a similar size marine or stationary diesel match to a 2.2L gas bellhousing?
The chances of them matching are very slim. You'd probably need the tranny and bellhousing from a Ranger, which is going to be hard to come by. eBay perhaps?
