i wantedto get some bf goodrich all terrains for my fx4 18" wheels the stock size tires are 275 65 r18 .. I believe that the only size that i can get these tires in is 285 65 r15 is that gona be muchof a difference in width? I wanna keep them as close to stock size as possible. especially the height. a little wider dosent botherme i just dont wanna go changing my speedo. Also i dont want them to be too wide for my wheels. Thanks for any help.
I hope that you meant 285/65/18 instead of 285/65/15. Because the 15 will not work on you 18 in wheel. The width should be the same (the 65, which is a ratio of width and height of sidewall). The 285 measure the circumference of the tire so it will be a bit taller than a 275. But not by much. Im sure if you do a search on tire sizes you will find a thread that answers all the questions you have. May even find pics.
275 is the width in millimeters, 65 is the percentage aof the width between the wheel and the ground, last numkber is wheel size.
So a 275/65/18 is by math 10.8" wide, 32" tall an fits on an 18" diameter wheel. Likewise a 285/65/18 by math is 11.2" wide 32.58 tall and fits on a 18" diameter wheel.
All of the places I have looked show a price of $240 per tore for the 285-18 BFG's. Way to pricey in my book for a tire 10mm or .4" wider and .6" taller.
triple- exactly right, I was off my rocker with the first #. The second is the aspect ratio. So on a 275/65/18 , the aspect ration is .65 so .65*275=178.75, and this is the height of the side wall. Multiply 178.75*2 =357.5, convert this number to inches and get: approx 14in and add to 18 in wheel diameter and get a total diameter of 32 inches.
Shorry about the whole circumference thing, Like i said I was off my rocker/
ok i got that but i guess my question really is.. would 10.5 or whatever with a 285 width be too wide for my stock fx4wheels? thanks for the answers tho.
oh what a pain is the rear.. thanks tho i found that good year makes the wrangler in the stock size which is better anyway.. since i'd rather not change the size. thanks for thehelp guys
