Ok, has anyone just cut out the soup bowl on their intake? Does it make a major difference in airflow? also im almost positive what the soup bowl is, but just in case, it is the big bowl looking thing thats connected to the top of the air cleaner right? Also where do you cut it at as close to the lid as possible or does it matter.
It's easier to just drill out the spot welds. Just be sure to seal the holes, because when water gets past your hood seal, and it will, it will hit the top of the air cleaner and go right for those holes.
Others have reported noticeable difference, but I couldn't tell myself.
Before I got my turbo I cut out the soup bowl and I thought I noticed a difference but I think it's too hard to tell. It's not going to hurt. Cut the spot welds and it should pop off pretty easy.
I have not looked at mine recently but would cutting off the soup bowl allow dirt and other stuff to bypass the air filter? Is there anything that the soup bowl does to help the engine or is it one of those things that is not necessary and gets in the way?
It's not necessary. It's function is to reduce intake noise, but you can't hear it over the noise of the engine. Go ahead and pull it, even if it doesn't help it sure won't hurt.
yeah im sure daves right, you probably wont see noticeable increases except at high rpms or under load. im just goin to take it off cuz if you look at it it just looks restrictive. im sure youve all seen those air cleaners with the two inlets on them, im wondering if putting one of those and installing a Dual Ram Air if that would make a eal increase or no. I mean if opening up one ram air like dave did, and how that help even more....maybe ill try it on mine and let yall know. Im dissapointed that i havent gotten to do nething to my truck this week, im in a band now and we have been practicin so much i havent had time!!
I just wanted to chime in. I cut out the soup bowl two weeks ago. While the difference seemed negligible, when I removed the inlet hose, WOW! She's a whole different truck! I had cut firewood this winter and the difference in hauling loads with and without these cheap mods is awesome. Now to figure out what to do next...
