Clutch sensor? Hard starting problem.
Thanks, Will
Steve
I bought one from 100 miles away and had them ship it to me. Then I realized my truck already had one. (F150xlt posted the picture afterwards
) So I gave my extra one away. I know this was done on a lot of trucks. This is probably why ford discontinued it. They thought they covered them all?
You may want to check the junk yards. There may be a truck with one in it!
Good luck!
Look under the hood at the Clutch Master Cylinder.
Have your wife depress the Clutch. You'll see a round platethat the Clutch Master Cylinder is mounted to move forward and away from the firewall.
The fix is to install a reinforcement bracket.
Ford part # e8tz7k509A used to cost around $5.00
From inside the truck you remove the nuts for the Clutch Master Cylinder. Position the bracket over the studs and reinstall the nuts.
Don't be surprised if you see a bunch of hair line cracks in the plate that the Clutch Master Cylinder is bolted to.
The reinforcement plate should solve your problem.
I have the same starting issue, and sometimes it's a bit harder to shift gears too. Is it possible that a failing master cylinder (hydronic clutch) may also cause the neutral safety switch to not engage?
Thank you for your help!

I found I had a ton of problems....
First of all, I ended up needing to replace the Clutch slave cylinder. This is located on the input shaft in the Bell Housing of the trans.
I replaced it because the clutch peddle felt really soft. Also, I had to press the clutch down really hard in order to start the truck.
A few years later, I noticed I couldn't shift into gears really well. Plus I'd take it out of gear and let off of the clutch & my truck would jolt because it was partially still in gear. So I replaced the worn shifter forks inside the trans. This was easier than doing the clutch slave cylinder.
Now it shifts great and works like it should.
Good Luck!!

I moved the neutral safety switch above the little clip that holds it to the firewall and the truck turns on fine now. I'm still having trouble shifting, it is inconsistent but sometimes works fine. My master cylinder isn't leaking that I can see, but I may still replace it. Do you think I'm on the right track? Thanks Gravy dude!!!
I'll keep y'all updated.
