240 Engine decoding

240 Engine decoding
I have a 1973 240 3 speed. I need to replace the carb but I would like to confirm that I do indeed have a 240. The body tag indicates a 240 but it could have been changed over the years. I look in the manual and it states there is a tag on the engine that would confirm the size. I cannot find this tag is there another way to determine which 6 cylinder I have. Maybe a date code or some other I identifying info.
