Hellwig Sway Bar
I have a question regarding the install and decided to add to this thread.
My question regard to number 6 on the instructions.
"on the drivers side, remove the emrgency brake cable bracket. Reattach it by threading the bracket through our end link mounting hardware. Add an extra nut to this end link to mount the bracket."
For the life of me, I cant figure this out. What would happen if I skip this step?
How have you all done this step?
Thanks,
RubenG
What do you deem neccecery and prudent to install and where do i get the parts? I dont want to do anything that when i take the X to Ford for service (getting extended warenty) that they then use an excuse to void that warenty or charge more

What do you use this vehicle for?
I moved the endlink mounting to the hole where the emergency parking brake cable was bolted in. I hope I did this correct. this is what Gilbert Contreras said from Hellwig..
"the area where the brake cable is attached is on the frame remove the mounting bolt that is where our end link will be poistioned the bracket will be between the frame and the end link thanks Gilbert "
I hope I did this correct.
But, yeah if you could take pictures it would be great. I just want to confirm if What i did is correct.
The X does feel like it coreners better and sure does feel more stable then before.
Thanks

See I have 3 babies the oldest is 4 they all require car seats and the wife and i are expecting our 4th. no one really makes a car that suits the needs of 6 people with 4 bulky carseats strollers diaper bags and still have room for grocries/shopping
you cna forget about comfort if you are large people which we are wife and I are both 6ft (shes a swede
)only car in recent production that really fit us was the Excursion. the suburban? its honestly too small not enough cargo space for the baby gear. mini vans? nope maybe a chevy full size migh have worked but we found a 44k mile X for a price we could afford first

1. Verify that you have every single piece in the kit before starting to install. Mine was missing a few bolts.
2. Test-assemble the kit on your floor before installing. Some of the washers were different than what was described in the instructions.
3. Starting a few days before you plan to install the sway bar, periodically spray the nuts on the factory shock mounts with penetrating fluid to loosen them.
4. The 7/16" washers go on the 7/16 bolts between the hourglass-shaped rubber bushing and the frame rail. I received a few extras of these, and I was told to "use them, it's better". How's that for engineering accuracy?
5. The "thick" washer referred to by the instructions is actually a bit thinner than the other washers. Go figure. But "that's what they're using now", says Gilbert. These precisely-sized 17/32" washers supposedly go sloppily on the 7/16" thread for retaining the end links bushings, and also on the 7/16" bolts for retaining the hourglass bushing, so I was told. I will be adding properly sized 7/16" washers above & below these so the bolt heads and nuts are seated on a proper surface.
6. The 1/2" washers I received are actually 9/16" washers. I was told to use them anyway. Yeah, right. Off to the hardware store.
7. The end link bushings each have a small raised bump on one side, which is supposed to point into the holes at the end of the sway bar, despite fitting perfectly into those bigger 17/32" washers. (Seems to me that the raised parts of the bushings will be eaten away after a few minutes of driving.)
8. All fasteners are el-cheapo grade 5, so no need to spend $$ on grade 8 for missing fasteners (but I will anyway).
