What are you talking about? I got my hellwig and too bad I didn't know you a month ago or I would have bought it from you. I noticed some of the nuts have a square indent in them and they would go into the bolt quite well till the bolt was halfway in it. Then you need to really crank on it. In any case, of upi are thjat worried about it, let me ask you this. How did you tighten it? I used an air rachet and made sure it was tight. Also, if I see any loosening of any nuts, I would double nut it. So far it has not been necessary. There are a few that would require a longer bolt, particularly the top nuts but the rest are fine.

I beat the crap out of my Hellwig, and it hasn't come loose yet. Those nuts with the square indentation are lock-nuts. They punch them to squeeze the threads in slightly so they lock on.

Worse comes to worst, a little Loctite would do well...

Don't worry about it, I don't think chaz3 will miss it.

I put my bar on this evening (rear) and everything went well even with the crummy instructions. I do have one question though, how tight do you go with the end links at the sway bar attachment. I know the paper says 30 ftlbs but they started to looked overly squeezed before the click on the torque wrench. I have not taken it for a spin yet but hope it will be more noticable than the HPX line install (kind of dissapointing). any help would be appreciated.

Just to let you know, I ordered the Hellwig rear sway bar from JCW and it arrived a couple of weeks ago in a very damaged box with parts missing - tried to contact JCW via their customer service web page and still haven't got a response.
Fortunately I also in parallel sent an email to Hellwig for help, and THEY WERE AMAZING. The customer service rep verified the missing parts are necessary for the install, and sent them out the next day. I haven't installed the bar yet, but seems pretty simple, even with the slightly dark pictures.

I just bought an 03 w/ a 7.3. Does this have a sway bar on it from the factory. Can I get someone to e-mail a pic of what the thing looks like with a Hellwig as opposed to the original? Haven't really had a chance to look around under it yet. I intend to do alot of boating this summer if the lakes don't dry up.

thanks

if you know what a sway bar looks like, yours, if you have one, has 2 links that come down from the body, and comes accross the rear axle with 2 bushings at the rear shock mounts and goes over the top of the pumpkin.

Will have a look at it later today. Seems mine is an early 2003 model, the switch to the 6.0 came later that year. was wondering if all 2003 models had the sway bar, or if this change was made when the engines were changed. thanks again

I've been told that 2wd did not come with a sway-bar unless you had a optional tow package. I have a 03' / 6.0PSD and it did not have one. I did add about 1 month ago and love it !

Rear sway bar relied on all sorts of other things. Camper package, payloads, cab options, bed length, you name it.

I put one in my 2001, can't imagine driving on the highway without it. A quick swerve and swerve back, and this thing would easily flip without it. Now it'll just spin out

Oh, crap, I'm in the X forum

Sorry, got SD on the brain ...

Not sure about the X's.... but I would assume because they are basically large station wagons that they would hardly (if ever) come with a stock sway bar.

I just got my Hellwig today and decided to install it.

I have a question regarding the install and decided to add to this thread.
My question regard to number 6 on the instructions.

"on the drivers side, remove the emrgency brake cable bracket. Reattach it by threading the bracket through our end link mounting hardware. Add an extra nut to this end link to mount the bracket."

For the life of me, I cant figure this out. What would happen if I skip this step?

How have you all done this step?

Thanks,

RubenG
