Building a 302 for drag racing what do you thiinnk about the 280h 512.lift? I'm buying the whole kit with chain, matching springs, lifters, ect. i was told by the comp guys it was a good mtach for the rest of my motor should i invest in any thing else (Besides valves) on my stock valve train to handle this cam?
What kind of truck are you building? Is it going to be streetable? If so, you're probably not going to have enough vacuum for power brakes with that cam.
i'll be geting some other heads also, got another question I'm about to order my PushRods, ARP screw in's, Guide Plates, Roller Rockers. what Roller rockers go on this motor 1.6 1.7 ?? any body got any suggestions of brand?(pushrod lengths?size?) I work out of town and i want all this stuff to be there when i get home so I cant go home and see whats on there its a 5.0 84' Mustang had a 4brl alum intake Stock. (if that helps) heres what i have Comp 280h cam, Double roller timing chain, matching Springs, lifters, Edel RPM intake , full length Headers , Speed demon Carb ,110gph Pump, and Mallory ignition. ect. what yal lthink make for a decent motor? next is heads them selfs.
Push rod length can be guessed at, but may not be right when everything's bolted together. You can use either ratio, but the stud size comes into play here too ( 3/8 or 7/16) Your fuel pump choice is WAY overboard with a carbed motor. That's enough flow to supply 4 engines. To accurately determine pushrod length, you need to assemble the motor then at least one intake & exhaust valve train set, then roll the engine over thru 4 complete revolutions and observe how the rocker tip contacts the valve stem tip. The contact patch needs to be centered on the valve tip. Too long or too short and it won't. You've got too many variables here to guess the proper length pushrod.
I have a 80 gph also from another motor that i can use, Thanks for the info I guess I give it a shot, any suggestions on a brand(roller rockers) (I was thinking comp aswell) Ive only built one other 302, Ive built many BBF's and FE's so the whole SB is new to me
I've got Comp Cams rollers on my 331. These are their "engine builders" line. Less expensive than the catalog ones. Only thing different about them is the color ( black) I'm happy with em. Bought em thru a friend who builds race motors for about $275. 1.7 ratio for 7/16th studs. With a three duece setup on my 331, I was feeding them with a 30 gal/hr electric pump. Only time they ever ran short on fuel was once when the filter between the tank and pump got plugged. Otherwise 30 gal/hr was good for full power runs up to 140 mph and sustained that speed for 1-2 miles.
