Rearview mirror
What the best and safest way to remove the mount that attaches the windshield?
Thanks ~Gage~
but before you get if off you will brake or crack the glass,
just get another mount from ford and glue a new one lower down. or maybe a glass shop can get it off. i personally have never had luck and broke 1 windsheild trying.
I was able to lower the mirror on it's long arm all the way down and mount the gage pod then adjust the mirror back up to under the pod
Take another look there is a LOT of range on the mirror stem
You do NOT want to know the cost of the special too for putting ON one of Fords $4.50 on glass mirror pieces (special heat activated adhesive). I asked a a few of the bigger glass shops around here how to remove the tab and move it down and most of the older guys told me it is a pain to remove a factory one and way too easy to crack or shatter the wind shield. The agreed method is to heat up the metal tab very hot with a heat gun and get a sharp pick behind one edge and SLOWLY lever it off. Problem is the amount of heat to soften the factory glue is very high and you must constantly also heat the surrounding glass area and never hold that high a heat to any one area or the glass can suddenly shatter. As to putting on a new Ford mirror tab on the glass. My dealer did not buy the $800 special tool and has his guys scratch off the Factory (heat set) Glue and use the typical cold set glues you can get at parts houses.
I thought the same as you on the Clarence but I managed to get the pod in there.
