Now that the water pump is in successfully, it is running very cool. The needle barely gets past the letter N in Normal. I was wondering, because of maybe fuel economy and the engine possibly thinking it's not warmed up, what kind of things I will need to install one of these. There is a sender and a sensor, and I might be changing both of them if a particular brand isn't an issue. The Ford CD manual recommends thread sealant with Teflon®. Is there anything I should use besides just regular RTV? Thanks again.
teflon plumbers tape
the temp gauge in the Aero Ford line is about as accurate as the space shuttle insulation engineers and booster seal engineers in the past 20 years....run until hot and put a thermostat in the fill tube, outflow side should read around 150d F or use an infared pickup and test upper hose steel nipple out of block, should be about 190-195d F
how old is the thermostat? if older than 5 years, replace with premium stainless steel unit...
pull out the temp gauge sender and clean the end of any scale or gunk buildup....put a resistor in series with the temp gauge sender to make it read mid scale
neither the gauge sender or ECT engine temp ECU sensor will affect the temp that the engine runs at...when the ECT fails will usually produce an ECU code and CEL/MIL with open loop cold start rich operation.

The temperature sender for the gauge on the instrument panel can be bad, and it'll read low when it's bad. Replacement is easy and it only costs about $5 at any auto part store.
