Weird Steering Column Noise
Since you all seem to have great insights to the many problems people have with their Rangers, I would like to throw another one out to you. My 93 Ranger (2.3L/2Wd/manual/non-tilt steering wheel) has this annoying sound in the steering column when I turn the wheel. It is difficult to describe but.. when I turn the wheel (either moving or parked).. I hear what sounds like a steel ball rolling back and fourth in the column (perhaps twice). (imagine a steel ball the size of buckshot, place that ball in a cup and turn that cup on its side, and then rotate/move the cup so that the ball swings back and fourth on the cup's side.. this is exactly what it sounds like). So, for example, if the wheel is in the "neutral" position, and I turn the wheel a half turn, what follows is this rolling ball sound.
Any ideas? Also, is it dangerous?? (it has been doing it for probably the past 30k (150k total on the truck). I am 99.9% sure it is coming from the column and not from other worn suspension/steering parts in other locations. By the way, the truck tracks perfectly, and steering is fairly tight.
Thanks!

Definitely not simply a "squeeking sound". Definitely sounds more mechanical/metalic and only occurrs when turning the wheel (no rattles, etc.. so i don't think it is simply something broke lose and is bouncing around).
thanks for the feedback
