I have found that on some cars the engine sensors are so sensitive that it can sense even the slightest change in air flow. Did you use an manufacturer suggested filter or an aftermarket. Is it seated tightly?
Autozone will scan a code and tell you what it is for free. I don't know if you have autozone's where you are but surely they aren't the only place that does it.
There is no point in guessing if a visual inspection reveals nothing unplugged around the filter box. Check the IAT and MAF connectors.
Have the codes scanned. Once you have the code(s), come back here and SEARCH using the code(s) as your SEARCH keyword and see if it has been discussed before.
If you go to AZ or one of the other parts stores for scanning, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING at that time. Come back here and do some homework first.
Exception: If the guy is a real mechanic and just happens to work at the parts store... Too many of the parts guys only know how to look up parts on the computer (give them a paper catalog and they're lost) and have no experience or training in diagnostics.
