235hp or 275hp
I could be wrong here, but I seem to remember that the green rating sticker on the valve cover ment that the engine was built as a stationary power unit engine. Ie pump/generator/etc.It was rated at 235 hp and was not certified for on road equipment. Not to say that the valve cover was damaged and it was replaced with one from a gen.

I wouldn't worry too much about the HP it does or doesn't have - power is easy to recover on the 7.3.
If it is an older 7.3 plugged into your truck, that is NOT a bad thing. The '01s had PMR - powdered metal rods. That is NOT a GOOD thing. There have been plenty of reports of failures of those rods when people hot rod their 7.3s - and I don't mean trying to get 500 hp out of them, I mean only hot rodding them a little. Of course, not everyone has this problem, but when it happens, it is catastrophic for the engine.
An earlier 7.3 might only have 235hp, but that is easily recovered as they came with forged rods and will take hot rodding to well past 350hp with no rod worries.
I don't know where the serial number is - but someone here must know. See if the number matches your truck. IF it doesn't, you can track the serial number through Ford to find out the date of manufacture. If it is pre-October2000, then it has forged rods. If it does, then you have 275 hp no matter what the sticker says.

Also I guess this means that I will have to do an extra mod or two the make up the difference (wallet permitting of course).

Allright, so I was Jonesing pretty hard about this one so I went outside with the flashlight and found the white international build decal on the driver side V/C and it shows a build date of 09 Sep 2000. . So I'm jumping up and down right? You guys know that I will eventually be peeking through that hole in the block just to be sure they're forged though. Thanks for all the help.
