Just kicking the idea around, more for fun than anything else. What would you guys think of a 360/390 in an 80 bronco? Built fairly mild, 4bbl, healthy cam probably use the stock manifolds for clearance. opinions?
go for the 390 right off the bat.. same cost to build and may as well get the cubes!!! i wouldn't bother with a healthy cam if you're gonna run stock manifolds. the stockers are the worst design known on the face of the planet and won't let a bigger cam breathe properly. other than that, i say sounds like a great idea!!
Ok, the stock manifolds are out, who makes a decent header with a thick enough flange? How's the stock 4bbl intake? leave the heads alone or port/polish? I don't want to get carried away but I want it to pull. I'm running a NP 435, which I would like to keep. Which bellhousing would i need?

Reason: forgot
just a FE bellhousing, one from a np 435 or a bor warner will work.. stock intakes are decent enough, if you wanna upgrade- dont waste ur money on a edelbrock performer, they're not much (if any) better than a stocker. porting the exhaust will really wake er up!! maybe just a quick gasket match on the intake is all... hedman elite series are a fairly decent header for the money... semi- short tubes for limited clearance apps and they have a 3/8" flange so they don't leak....
A puller, hmmmm. Seen pics in the offroad & 4x4 forum with headers poking out the hood. No clearance issues that I know of. I think the username is Tomsen?
I was all set on putting a 428 in my '78 Bronco - still have the various parts that I collected together for the swap, including the bellhousing. But..the engine found a 'better' home in one of my boats, so the Bronco got a fresh 400 instead. The FE-powered Broncos that I have seen have definitely hauled the mail...but I've only personally seen the swap done on 78s and 79s so I'm no help with an '80.
Right now the Bronco has a 300 six. 40 over, isky cam, p/p on the head, 3 angle, offy c, edelbrock 500, efi manifolds. Like I said running the NP435, BW 1356 to a 9". It runs great, I just want to build an FE. If I do this I'll start collecting the parts and doing the research now, by the time I get all the bits together and get it built it'll probably be about a year or so.
