i was wondering besides ford where can i get a short block assembly, my cost from ford is $3260+2300 for the core, which i cant return due to the hole in the block. not looking for anything special just a replacement. thanks for your help
here is a link i saw the other day, they have LONG BLOCKS for $3900. i think that is a good deal, you can take the engine apart, and sell individual parts on ebay or something. i assume one of your rods let go? were they forged or PMR?
yea it was a rod #1 if i remember correctly, and the rods are the pmr's. thanks for the link strokin_it. im kinda wonderin about those test engines i bet they beat the he11 out of them when they test em
i can comment on their service, as well as jtharvey. their shipping times suck. its been two weeks and a day since i placed my order, hasn't come yet. wasted a weekend, i planned on having the stuff needed to wrench on the beast, but no, the housing i ordered hasn't came yet. just emailed them.
I have a complete powerstroke, dissasembled and cleaned, that I will no longer be needing... PM me with what you need, and we'll see if we can set up a deal... If I remember right, it is a 2000, any external way to tell if the rods are the forged variety or not?
diesel innovations or beans diesel performance can get you a short block. Or go to a junk yard and buy and engine with a good block and have a local machine shop short block it for you. I can get you a phone number to a company that sells a complete rebuild kit (oil pump, freeze plugs, all gaskets and seals, pistons, rings and wrist pins, crank, cam and rod bearings...) for about 900 bucks. As mentioned earlier Diesel innovations has a good price for forged rods. While your at it might as well have you heads checked out, do a valve job, new seals and what ever else may need done. If your interested and want new stock valve springs i have a complete set i took off my new heads, id sell them cheap. I also have some used stock pushrods and main bolts if you happen to need those. Id make ya a heck of a deal on some of my old parts that are still useable.

Forged rods will have a smooth machined surface where the cap mates to the rod. PMR's will have a rough (actually BROKEN!!) surface where the cap meets the rod.
Externally on the engine valve cover....
Build date of 10/16/01 and prior=forged
Build date of 10/16/01 and later=likely junk

Ford has a no fault core policy. It doesn't matter that there is a hole in it. As long as you return it, you get 100% credit. You'll get a warranty that is good at any Ford dealer, too.

That might end up being a pretty good deal as long as it has forged rods in it.

I was just thinking that same thing and you won't know till you get it which rods it has cause the replacement short blocks will work either way so it's gonna be the luck of hte draw.
