Where can I get the remote turn on lead for my amp from the factory radio? Can I just tie the turn on lead from the amp into a key-switched source?
Thanks
If it's the factory radio it probably won't have one. Actually I'll correct myself, it almost definetly won't have one.
Some aftermarket amps have a sensing turn on. They go off when there isn't an audio signal and come on when there is. This is a great feature.
Before I knew my old amp had that feature, I tried putting a switch on it, but the sensing turn on over-rode the switch and turned the amp on. It was kinda amusing actually lol.
Yes you can do that, though my suggestion would be, since you don't have a remote turn on wire from the factory radio, find a wire in the fuse box that comes on with the ignition (like...I dunno, maybe the radio wire power wire!? There's an idea lol), tap into that for power. That way the amp will automatically come on with the radio.
Now...that being said, if this is like an amp dedicated to your sub (which mine wasn't) and you want the power to turn it off at times, you can just jump 12V from the main power wire terminal to a switch then into the REM terminal.
I just bought an '06 F250 and put my amp in today and I have a remote turn on wire going to my radio. I know there's probably a big difference between a '96 f150 and '06 f250 but I bet you have one.... Mine was a solid pink wire and in most vehicles it will be either solid pink or red. Check it out with a multimeter, there's gotta be one in there somewhere. luck
Hey never thought about that. If all else fails, you could tap into the wire for power to the radio. Then it would come on with the radio no matter what.
