About 2 weeks ago I purchased our first brand new vehicle, 2006 lariat. I love this truck so far and can only hope to continue to.
I bought this truck in Feb. so Ford was offering the first month payment, and combined cashback of 3500 with Ford Credit Financing. The MSRP was $37,865. The dealer was selling for the MSRP less the cashback or $34,365.
With no purchase plans (A, X, etc), what would have been a good target price to try to negotiate? I'll tell you what I worked out after a few replys.
Hey silver, congrats on the truck. I'm in the market for a Super Crew Lariat myself. I am going to make an educated guess that for a truck with an MSRP of $37,865 that the truck should have sold for about $30k after all rebates and incentives.
When I asked the FTE sponser dealers for a price on the truck I wanted, they were about $7,700 below MSRP after rebates.
Did you guys have to haggle them pretty hard to knock 7k-8k off of the sticker price? I've been looking at maybe getting out of my '03 Screw and into a newer one. So looking at Ford's website and using their payment calculator it's sorta deceiving, since they go off of MSRP, and reality is that they'll be knocking a nice chunk off of MSRP.
By using an X plan PIN the dealer told me I saved $500 to $1000 over the best deal I could have possibly negotiated with them. There are sites where you can request X Plan PINs from Ford employees or retired employees.
I bought an 06 xlt screw 4x4 last month. The sticker was around 35,000 and i bought it for 26,700.
It took me less than an hour to get to the final sales price. Do your homework and go in with a set number!!!!
I suggest sitemailing PolarBear or go to the new truck buyer forum here at FTE and list the exact truck you want. PolarBear can give you the FTE price along with MSRP and invoice along with any applicable rebates for your zip code.
Take the price and go to your dealer and don't pay a cent more. It is that simple.
Well, as I stated earlier, I had NO X plan or anything like that. I had looked on the internet at local dealers and find one within a couple hours that is a no negotiations dealer, the price you see is the price you get. They were a couple of thousand less than my local dealer and I went to them with that price. At first he said he couldn't match it.
He then came within $500 and I agreed to the price. Later I went home and noticed I had qouted him the wrong price and he actually went below the other dealers price.
Sounds like you did well. As long as it's something you can live with is all that counts.
I got my 05 Lariat Screw 4x4 in December, sticker was $42K and change, final price was just under $31K, but like I said, it's an 05 and they needed to move it.
Should have been able to negotiate at a minimum a little above dealer invoice price, then hit it with the rebates. In fact Ford dealers have a 3% of the MSRP as a holdback, so it would not be unusual to even go a little below dealer invoice and then hit it with the rebates. The 3% holdback is pure profit.
