I have a 78 f150 with a 302 in it and i recently replaced the wire that runs from the altenator to the solenoid and the solenoid but when i turn the key on (just on not in the starting posistion) the truck tries to start, any ideas. I was told that i got the 2 little wires that go to the solenoid mixed up? help

It sure sounds like you swapped the "I" and "S" wires on there respective terminals. Those are the two small wires.
The brown wire goes on the "I" for ignition terminal (sends 12vdc to ignition system thru ignition switch when it is in run or start); and the red/blue stripe goes on the "S" start terminal (receives 12vdc from igntion switch when the switch is in start position to close start relay).
thanks, i did switch it and it worked, the solenoid was a junkyard solenoid off of something else and it wasn't marked on the solenoid. thanks alot it's running now, i am putting a new carb on it tommorrow.
