What is the purpose of the shim that is located under the spring seat and sits on top of the radius arm ? My 67 F250 only had one on the passinger side.

I believe it to be Ford's crude method of compensating for slight variations in suspension height caused by minute differences in the coil spring length. It is common to see it on only one side.

The only thing I can come up with would that your shim could possibly be something Ford stuck in there to reduce/prevent squeaking. Is it metal? An alignment shim? Just a couple ideas-could be something else entirely.

It's metal and the MPC Illustration Book shows one on each side...so much for the adjustment theory. :-)
