I bet this is an ignition timing issue. Check to make sure you are getting full advance.

bad news

Sorry to say this but some of these old trucks are just flat out lazy. My old truck was rebuild a long time ago and it must have had mild upgrades because it has more power than many others I have drove. also if its around about an 80 - 89 they were on the lazy side.
P.S. My old truck can power brake 33 in tires actualy they are 285 75 r16

What gears and tires do you have? Maybe thats the problem.
Also what is the compression of your motor, maybe it is just worn out.

My truck has 3.33 gear in the back and the compression test on it I did last year read in at about 130 -140 psi at 370,000 miles. It was rebuilt at about 100,000 so the motor has around 270,000 miles

where to find the gear ratio

The gear ratio of your truck should either be found in a manual or on an idintification tag attached to the diff cover by 2 bolts. These tags are often hard to read and may take a little work to clean enough to read. If you take your trucks vin number you can look up what the truck was supose to have had in it but that can change with a rear end change. I would look at the tag on the rear end.
