This is the third time this has happened to a thread that I can't find. Maybe it's something I don't know and someone can share the Exact way to find a thread that is Moved.
I have a remote start on my 6.0 diesel and wondering if any has had trouble with it working only sometimes.
What type of remote start do you have?
I have a compustar Alarm with remote start and had issues when they first installed it. The remote start would turn off to soon or cycle on and off.
They finally connected the sense line up to the alternator and everything runs fine now. This maybe your problem, but not sure.
What type of problems are you having? If it's not starting every time, you might have to adjust your crank time or your glow plug delay time. Crank time needs to be at least 1.0 to 1.2 seconds. Also adjust glow plug delay according to the weather there.
It works about 50 percent of the time. when I try to use it when the truck is cold it seems to never work. When i'm driving around alot it seems to work better, like when the truck is warm, weird to me but I know nothing about wiring.
What brand is it...I know of two brands that are known to NOT work in really cold weather. The Code Alarm/AudioVox have been tested by FORD to work in any weather. Describe exactly what is happening
It is definately audiovox because they faxed me the whole 25 page wiring diagram.Usually everytime I first go to start the truck cold with the remote it never works, you can here the glow plugs heating for about 10 to 15 seconds and the whole system stops and resets itself,it will keep doing that.If the alarm is set it will also activate the alarm. when I start driving from place to place it starts working sometimes
Who installed the alarm? take it back and get them to do it correctly. It sounds like delay time. But also, it should start with alarm on. I suspect there are multiple issues. Perhaps the delay is not properly activating the glow plug curcuit? This means the plugs are not actually warming, so it wont start cold. Installation is using the wrong curcuit to activate accesories, but not the glow plug curcuit. That would be my take if it ALWAYS starts warm but NEVER cold.
I agree with mhoefer, it sounds like the 2nd or 3rd ignition wires are not wired right. But if the glow plugs are warming like you describe, somethings wrong with the alarm, take it back, I have always had good luck with VIPER products.
