I get DK at Wal*Mart. However, I ran a gallon thru my MB and didn't notice squat. Of course no SOTP increase. No increase in any starting ease or mileage. Maybe I will try it with the Powerstroke someday
I completely understand. I make NO claims of better performance, better mileage or anything of the sort.
I am concerned about lubricity, primarily, keeping injectors clean, and cetane boost. I feel no performance improvement, and after keeping complete records, noticed absolutely no mpg improvement.
However, what I do notice is a smoother, quieter running engine. The injector clatter is a small fraction of what it sounds like without the additive. The engine also seems to run more consistently. Before using the additive, the engine would run smoother sometimes, rougher other times. Sometimes the injector clatter was horrible. Once it was so bad, my wife asked if there was something wrong with the truck or if it was supposed to sound like that.
The fuel line mods helped the clatter quite a bit, but the Stanadyne helped a lot, too. To me, it is worth the extra cost to keep the engine running as sweet as it does.

Lucky you. I didn't even notice that. It sounded the same even with DK or Marvel Mystery Oil in it.
We still need to be concerned with lubricity with the new ultra-low sulfur fuels. The lack of lubricity can damage injectors on modern diesels like the Powerstroke - and since the PSD has such outrageously priced injectors, we need to take care of them. They price those injectors as though they are for a BMW.
Even something like Lucas fuel additive does a decent job with lubricity. Or, if biodiesel B5 is available in your area, that would also improve the lubricity of the fuel and you probably wouldn't need any additive.
Probably wouldn't hurt anything, but it's unnecessary. The performance formula has the lubricating properties too it, it's just not as concentrated as it is in the lubricity formula. Here's a quick comparison of the 4 additives: http://www.stanadyne.com/new/ppt/showfile.asp?id=719
cool, I am running the lubricity now.
If I decide to run the performance are there big gains?
or am I better off just sticking with the lubricity formula?
ok, I think I answered my own question. After consulting a co-worker with oil inspection experience. The Cetane increase is going to make the diesel fuel burn hotter and cleaner, therefore increasing the HP but also increasing the EGT's.
Yall may have known this, but I thought I would share for those who didnt.

There's no hard and fast answer to that one. Some people see more gains than others. I'd give the Performance a try for a few tankfulls. You can get 6 pints shipped to your door for less than $40 from the link I posted above. That'll treat 360 gallons.
You may feel some SOTP increases, but you shold see less smoke, quicker starts, and smoother idle with the Performance formula. This comes from the cetane boost that it has and the lube formula doesn't have.
It says it lubes and cleans the injectors, too. I've used DK in the past with good results, I was just looking for something less expensive. You guys are getting WAAAAY good prices on your DK!
I done paid for it; guess I'll try it and see what happens.
I use the Kleene gray 96 oz and have good enough mpg numbers to justify the cost of the Kleene.
It is a pita to put it in without a funnel. Can or has anyone, used 16 oz coke bottles to keep it in to fill one tank at a time?
Actually, I have an empty, 16-oz, Lucas additive bottle. I use a 2-stroke oil mix measuring cup, which has lots of easy-to-read measurement markings and pours well into the Lucas bottle. Then I take the Lucas bottle to the gas station and dump the bottle in the tank before I add the fuel. If I go on a trip, I just fill the Lucas bottle, as it has one-ounce marks on the side and I can use them to approximate the correct amount.
No funnel required. Yes, it is kind of a PITA, but the truck is worth it.
