With few exceptions, almost any PS pump will work with any PS box, so you can mix and/or match without problems as long as you can come up with a drive/mount/adjustment system to fit your engine. The major exceptions I'm aware of are the pumps on luxobarges are ultra high pressure to provide effortless steering for the bluehairs and wobbleheads, so those should be avoided. The other extreme is the stock MII R&P box that was designed for a 2000# vehicle with a light front end, so it calls for a lower pressure pump to keep from blowing out the seals when you cramp the wheels. The Saginaw pump (recognizable by it's characteristic teardrop shape) is a very popular since it is very commonly available, uses a standard 16mm pressure hose fitting, is compact and attractive in it's simple design, and has a number of mounting bolt bosses that makes it easy to mount. It was used on most GM vehicles and a number of pre-R&P Ford products.
PS: I thought homey was a misspelling of "Homely" as in not very attractive...

Chrysler also used the the Saginaw pump. The one I'm using came off my 87 Chrysler suspension donor car...

Thanks for the replies guys!

So if I am hearing you correctly, I need to find a PS bracket for a 1968 302? As I said before, I have a 1978 engine, but added 68' heads.

What years were the PS pump mounts the same?

1968-????

Unless the PS pump bolts to the heads, most bolt to the block, it doesn't matter what year 302 it comes from.

When you say the block, do you mean the block via the water pump?

Or maybe just the waterpump then come off the water pump to the PS pump. I want to do it right, but at the same time, I just as soon keep it simple. The serptine setup is one way of doing it. Probably the most reliable. I see a lot of 60 & 70 year pumps on Ebay, should I consider one of those ? I have a lot more questions than answers. Thanks guys. Roy.
Roy,

I am going through the same thing with a 223. Whose pump did you use? Did you find a double pulley for the crank or did you come off the water pump.? I have heard you can use a double pulley from an alternator. Do you have photos?

Don't use a pump from a R&P donor unless using R&P steering. R&P uses a lower pressure pump than a reciprocating ball box like the Toyota, Volare or Jag.

Thanks AX,

I was thinking about using a reman Volare pump with reservoir and Volare pressure supply and return. That way I figure I should have less problems.

Its getting either a double pully for the crank - can't find one - or doing an alternator with a double pulley and coming off of that.

The aftermarket alternators have small pulleys (later F100s) and I don't what the ratio should be for the power pump.

Roy,

How did the bracket on your 223 turn out?

Got any pictures?
