Maroondually,
Welcome to FTE and the Pre Power Stroke forum.
Come back often, we like to hear from you and your truck.

Something to consider about the manual switch.
The new style controller adjusts the glow plug heat time if glow plugs are burnt out.
This keeps the rest from frying.
If you override the automatic controller with a manual switch you will be disabling this feature.

I personally like the manual control, but I also do not let other people drive my truck.
I also check the glow plugs often and replace the dead ones.

Each of the two glow plug systems Ford used on the IDI engine had good points and bad points.
To bad there is no way to combine both systems and use all the good points but none of the bad points. That would be an awesome glow plug system.
I may have to think about that for a while to see what I can come up with.

Well I timed the WTS Light and it was on more than 20 seconds more like 35 - 40. Previous Owner said it has been hard to start for awhile. and he says he just shot it with a bit of start juice. So this leads me to believe he has been doing this for sometime.

Chances are he has fried the glow plugs maybe?

I checked fuel lines all look good. If it try and start it after waiting for WTS star tlight goes out i get the good ole puffs O smoke out of it so It is gettign fuel just fine.. just wont start..

I'm going to invest in new glow plus anyways. I have had the truck about a month now and yet to drive it mor than 1 time as I have been working on fixing everything on it.

Do you think good idea to go ahead and replace them. (Based on PO use with start fluid?)

Thanks Guys
Dave

i would check the glowplugs first. you may have a problem with the controller. if the plugs are bad the wts light goes out faster, not stays on longer. it almost sounds like your controller is not grounded properly.

The white wire is only from the controller to the relay. Hooks to a small terminal on the relay. The other small terminal has two red wires on it.

Years of oil and dirt can make the white wire look yellow or tan.
