I would like to have step by step instructions on how to remove the door panel on a 1988 Ford F-150 so that I replace the arm rests. My 88 Ford has power windows and power locks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Here is why I am asking. I had the Haynes manual for 1980 - 1996 Ford F-Series and Broncos. That manual frustrated me, that I threw the thing in fire place. There was blatantly wrong info in there and trying to do what it said didn't work for me.
I removed the screw in the armrest( which BTW is the only thing needed to be removed to remove the armrest according to the Haynes manual ), removed the screw in the upper front corner, removed the power window and locks. I was able to loosen the clips at the bottom, could run my hand between the panel and door on the underneath. For some reaon I could not remove the door panel, it was like it was attached somewhere else( which again is all the Haynes manual said to do ).
The only manuals I have been able to find is Chilton and Haynes and both IMO are trash. I would like to get a Helms manual like I have for my TBird, now when I checked their website out, I don't know which one I need as the F-150's are not labeled the same way.
Sounds like you are almost there. Just use a large screwdriver along both edges of the panel. Everytime you feel a plastic clip, pop it loose. Don't worry about breaking them. You can get replacements at about any auto parts store. Once you have both sides and the bottom loose, and the two screws out, It will be flopping around pretty good, but still attached at the top. Lift the panel a bit and work it out of the window opening. This is much easier with the window all the way down. Mine was dangling by the wiring for the door locks and power windows. I took the three screws out of the back of the switch assembly and left the switches hang loose while replacing the speakers.
