Did I price this F-1 part too high?

I have decided to sell off some of the F1 parts I won't be using (mines a '48) so took a gander through Ebay to see what stuff was going for, anyway, saw a '48-'52 spare tire bracket and long bolt go for 85 bucks and change, plus shipping.

So I cruise though Fordbarn, saw a guy asking for a bracket and hangers, sent him an email telling I had the bracket, no hangers and "how's 75 bucks sound",

Tone of his reply was I was a bit crazy:

"sorry your way too high, if you had everything $75 would be alright , but you don`t"

I didn't mean to offend the guy, so told him to make an offer.

Might even be someone on this forum, I dunno.

Anyway, what's it worth? I could put it up on ebay, but thought I was helping the guy out.

Lesson one - No good deed shall go unpunished. I'd say you've done the right thing to watch eBay to see what the market is on something like that. If the guy's a jerk, that's his problem. I paid a good bit more than you're asking price for the one on my F-3, but it's a different piece, and I bought it from a yard. Why don't you just list it on eBay yourself?

I don't think he was a jerk (especially if he's on this forum ).

I guess I could list it, but there's always the uncertainty that it won't sell, or sell so cheap it's not worth the hassle to take it in to town to ship it.

I figure Ebay and me will get along a lot better when I retire and sell all my junk, er..treasures, to those who need them

These are available new and as I recall, if you add up everything (hangers etc) it comes up close to $200. I have seen these on the flathead forum (private sale) for over $100. On eBay they routinely go for over $100. Obviously the used ones look pretty used, too. Bottom line, your price was fair, or mighty close.

No, don't feel bad. I think I paid about $100 for the one I had on my 52. It had all the bolts/hangers and in pretty fine shape. Not to mention it took me awhile to find it. Those are getting tough to find

Some guys are just looking for a "deal", even if it takes them 3 months trying to get it. I've seen friends of mine walk all around a big swap meet trying to save 5-10 bucks on an item they know they need/want when it's right there in front of them. It's almost comical.

I have to admit to being keen on saving a buck where I can, and love to do some minor haggling, but I learned long ago that if I walk away from a piece at a swap meet, I shouldn't expect it to be there 5 minutes later!

Back to the spare hangers; I figure to put a crank-up type on my '52. Anyone got suggestions on one that fits particularly easily? None of them appear to be too hard to fit.

I got a good deal then. I bought one for a guy in a local F100 club for $25.

Ilya - You sure did get a deal. Good goin'.

Albuq - Wasn't there a thread a while back that got discussion on converting to the newer style hanger? It might have been off track from the original subject. Maybe look for a thread on under the bed tank relocation. Not sure. But I know it's been discussed here before. Stu

My dad put a nice one in his 68 Dodge pickup 25 years ago, I seem to recall he told me it was out of a Toyota pickup. It worked real good lifting those 12-16.5's up off the ground. This thread made me start thinking, I need to start looking for one for my 51F1. Guess I will hit the local 4X4 swapmeet this Sunday and see what I can find.

I had a '84 or '85?? Mazda B2000, that had a crank on it that lowered a chain with a "cup" to hold the center of the wheel. Real nice setup, probably dirt cheap if there are any around the yards left.

I like to get a good deal too. Some guys have to build there truck on the cheap, but that is not a reason to be rude; "no thanks" works well and so does a counteroffer.

The brackets are on a couple of sites new reproductions for $85.00 USD but they don't have the bolts and the frame mounts with them.
I just paid $150.00 on u-pay for one complete with frame brackets and bolts before I found the new ones hmmmm. Oh well it should be here any day now.
