I just put a new carb on my 78 302, it has electric choke(the one i had before the guy that had the truck before me gutted it and made in manual) now it has a whistling in it, it sounds like a vacum hose but i'm not sure. Any ideas? thanx

66 f100 soon to be restored if i don't sell it
You didn't state what brand of carb you have. My Edelbrock with electric choke has a built in air leak on the choke itself. I am not sure what purpose this serves and the Edelbrock tech guy says it is supposed to be this way. Mine doesn't make a discernible whistling noise tho.

[font color=red size=3]Is it a factory Ford carb? Many of the factory 2 barrel carbs had a vacuum port in the choke housing. It was to pull warm air through the tube that went to the exhaust manifold. Is there a place for a tube to connect to the rear of the choke housing? See if plugging that helps.
When I bought my '73 390 it had been converted (not correctly) to manual choke and no one had plugged this vacuum hole, so it had a massive vacuum leak for years. It ran a lot better when I plugged it.
When I converted my Automatic choke to an Electric choke, the kit came with two or three caps to plug all the vaccumm holes. I think there is only 2 but I am not too sure.
It's a factory ford 2bbl off of another truck, the vacum line that runs to the exhaust manifold isn't there but i have plugged the hole with my finger and it still whistles, i don't think my exhaust manifold has a place to put the vacum hose from the carb.
