Is there any way to put a second monitor (for a rear facing car seat) in line with the factory player/dvd system? I know there is not a RCA jack on the outside, but is there any way from the inside to hook another monitor in?
I have an 06 Expy with the factory flip-down DVD.....
I added the Vizualogic replacement headrests with the 7 inch screens built in them... I now have 3 screens in my Expy.... The flip down factory and one in the driver headrest and passenger headrest.......
Both the vizualogic screens feed off of the factory dvd player so I can have all 3 playing a movie at the same time ---- So yes.. you can add an extra screen.
I did have to add a video amplifier to up the video signal strength to the additional 2 monitors.... The factory unit is only designed to power the one screen....
I had a local stereo shop do the work for me though.....
It can be done.
I assume you had the install done by a profesional or were you able to do it yourself? It is true that they had to tear apart the dvd player and cut the video signal inorder to redirect it to the video splitter. The of course send it back up to the screen and also on to the new screen.
I got a verbal quote for about $600 to add in a 2nd screen for the front passenger.
The factory flip-down DVD will have to be taken down so the installer can access the video signal input line....to feed the other screens the video signal....
You'll need to add a video signal amplifier ($50 or so) to boost the video signal as the stock DVD unit is only strong enough to power one screen...
$600 seems really high........
I had the vizualogic headrests installed and everything professionally done for $375......Works great
thanks for the reply. The $600 would be for the Expedition factory replacement visor monitor from Vizualogic for the front passenger. Over the top expensive, I know. I won't be getting it. Instead I would get a regular wide screen and put it on a pedistle mount in the front so the passenger and possible the driver could see it (when not driving).
Well... the $375 was for installation only.....and the signal amp.
The Visualogic headrests were $1500 for both......
I have 3 screens in my expedition --- The stock flip-down player/dvd in the center of the vehicle + a 7 inch monitor behind the driver and passenger headrests...... It all works great
