Born in Fresno, lived there for a couple years then moved up by Yosemite (Bass Lake, Awahnee, etc.) then moved up to Trinity county, then Shasta county, then Tahoe, back to Shasta, then Mendocino county and now Lake county. My folks moved around a lot...

Wow... that must've been great living Yosemite. I love it out there especially during the summer. Of course, it is beautiful during the winter to. But I am a summer person.

I was probably too young to really appreciate it. Went on a 10-mile backbacking trip into Yosemite when I was 4, all I remember about it was that it sure seemed like a lot of walking for my little legs, and that back was heavy! (Probably weighed all of 5 or 10 pounds!)

I lived in Yosemite too, back when I was 18 yo. (looooong time ago, yikes) Worked at the Awahnee Hotel in the Valley and then Wawona when summer came. Great place. My family meets there in the park every year. Very special place for my family. We just finished yesterday making reservations for our family rendezvous for this August.

Tigerdan, May i ask how old you are?
because when i was the same age and stuff i also used to take this 10-12 mile hike
down the river from our camp in Yosemite, to the falls and then down the falls to the
lodge there. Just wondering because we used to go with a couple other families.

I'm 45. At the time we lived near Coursegold, it was group of kids, all older than me and led by a friend of my parents.

Oh bro, we should compare notes. I can't recall the exact year, but I too lived there and worked at the Awahnee. I'm gonna guess it was 73 or 74. Did you live in the tent/houses? If you were there at the same time I was, LOL, we sure had a lot of fun, but I have a hard time remembering much of it. I was about 16-17, runaway, lied about my age to got to work, got kicked out of the Park for being,,,,well,,,, shall we say,,,,oh never mind. DAMN it was fun. Do you remember the guys with "day-packs" that rode 10 speeds around to all the employee camps on payday? You might want to answer that in a PM, LOL.

I was not going to post to this thred, mainly beause my story is much the same as the other navy members here, with the eception that im still active duty.

But in an attemt to let the members of this chaptor to get to know me better il tell you.
I was born and raised out side of fresno cal.Went to school in madera cal. and joined the navy.I shipped out for basic on grad night, and have not been back there since.

The navy has taken me around the world and has been very good to me.My job in the navy gets me around and i dont to comfertable in one spot.My postings go as such.

Ill start in cali.San diago, miramar and alameda.Hawaii and two postings in florida, pensacola and jacksonville.I had a bref stint in virginia, but that about does it for the states except for were im at now.

Ive lived in alot of different countrys and ill name a few.Two postings in japan, yakoeska and okinowa.Subic bay philipeins, tailand and hong kong.Singapor was a treat but sri lanka was a joke.

Austrailia was awsome but didnt stay long.have been all thruout the persion gulf,as well as three spots in africa.

Ive called a few spots in europe home such as turkey, italy, france, spain germany and england.

Im not going to mention all the different ships that ive been on, but theres been a few.
I have also been in every conflict the U.S has been in since 1989,as well as a few that the genral public does not know about.

Why am i in fallon nv. now? well this place is special. My folks moved here in 93 and my wifes folks live here as well[her dad was in the navy].
In the navy the younger sailors like places that have alot to do,but for a famliy man such as my self this is the place to raise kids.
Its a quite town with allmost no crime and good schools. The navy has told me that its my decesion when i want to leve.well i dont think that thats going to happen anytime soon.
Im a master cheif in charge of combat operations at the fighter weapons school, but you guys know it as Top Gun.

Dave, my story is much the same as the early part of yours - I went to high school in Las Cruces, New Mexico - a town I very much disliked. I finished high school only because the Navy would not accept me if I didn't.

I liked the town/school so much I shipped out the day after finals, and asked them to mail me my diploma - which I am still waiting to receive. My parents wanted me to stick around for the ceremony but school was done business, and I was still mad at my dad for moving there.

Yes, I thought of that when you first posted. I wish I had stayed in the Navy, but it was a different Navy than you know - I got out as Viet Nam was winding down, the civilians were spitting on servicemen, and drugs were a real problem aboard ship - there were compartments the officers and chiefs just did not enter for fear of what they would find.

I was an electronics' technician, reactor operator. All the guys I went to Nuclear Power school that stayed in wound up as Master Chiefs, Warrants, or Commissioned Officers. My best friend went to knife and fork school and retired as a Commander, which was very good considered he was a Polish kid from Detroit that started as an E1.

The Navy was a great opportunity, but I was too young to realize it.
