How much work is regearing a Dana 44 front axle and Ford 8.8" rear yourself? What kind of equipment and time does it take? On a scale of 1-10 with one being the easiest, you can rank the difficulty! Thanks
this is a bit of work (and time) and you should do the research first and have good instructions you are comfortable with and all the right tools and equip. You will also likely need new differentials depending on how much of a change you want to make. For instance if you have 3.55s now, and want to go to 3.73s or 4.10s (or bigger) you need the next size diff. Also a TTB axle is a little more work than a straight axle. What are you working on? And while you are at it are you going to go to some sort of locker?
Thanks for the response, I am working on a 1986 F150 4x4. I have 305's which is the equivalent to a 33 in. tire. I am wanting to change my gears to 4.10's but not sure if I want to put lockers in. Have thought about it though. Any suggestions on them?
Ive installed detroit truetracs in bot my 95 F250 (with a Dana 60 F350 front end) and in my 95 Bronco and Im very satisfied wwith both for a front end. For the rear I have stock limited slip and iits so so at best but better than nothing. You will definately need new diffs to go from 3.05 to 4.10. I think its 3.37 and below and 3.91 and up. If you are going to change difs I would definately add lockers.
