i looked a bit under search but didn't find exactly the problem i was having with my '97 F-150 4x4 supercab. at around 45 i have a studder or slip in my tranny and at 55-65 i have minor vibration but it's enough to notice that is is not suppost to be so.
i'm runnin at 134K on the original tranny and motor and i believe i need it rebuild (tranny that is). would you guys agree or have any other fix's. have heard it could run my up to about $1k but i don't have the cash for it at the moment. you guys know a quick fix that could help a bit.
Are you sure that the problem is transmission related. When these trucks have a dead cylinder at speed while the converter is locked up, the miss is felt very dramatically and feels like a shudder or a bad tire vibration. Is the service engine soon light on?
I have a similar problem, my truck has about 49k on it, it's a 2000, 2wd, long bed with the 4.6L. Runs smooth until I hit 60mph, then from 60 - 63 or 64, I get a heavy vibration from the rear of the truck, kinda feels like when you are driving a manual and shift into a higher gear without getting going fast enough first and it wants to stall out. It's been to 4 different dealers and 2 tranny shops. The tranny fluid has been completely changed out and everything but no success. Everyone of them has told me that it has something to do with shims in the rear end and that this is by design. They could make changes to the shims but it would be pricey and just result in the vibration at a different speed. This is my 10th vehicle in about 10 years, (I used to get bored with what I was driving and change often until I got married and the mortgage came...so now I've had this truck for a few years.) I've never had any vibration like this in any other vehicle so any suggestions are welcome. Lately I've just avoided driving around 60...and it only happens when I'm accelerating.
I am chasing a vibration as well, ruled out the rear end, just had 4:10's dropped in and new axle as one was damaged, new driveshaft dropped that off for new U joints and I get a call that the driveshaft is out, ( god knows how a driveshaft w/o so much as a ding in it gets bent) my tranny definately needs a rebuild and while it is out will get the transfer case checked out and if the vibe is still there when I am done it may just take a ride and accidentally CRASH
I have a 2000 F150 4x4, and have been having the same exact vibration problem. The one where it feels as if the truck has shifted into to high of a gear, this is an automatic tranny and I have found that shutting off the o/d it wont do this, but I am 50 mph or above when it happens, so driving with the o/d off at this speed causes the truck to tac alittle to high for todays gas prices!! Any help you all can give would be awsome!
Thanks Racerguy, Its a 2000 F150 4x4, it has the 5.4L. There is about 95,000 on the truck, the plugs around 15,000. And the tranny was flushed about a year and a half ago. When I told my mechanic the details of the problem, he checked my trans fluid and said it looked fine.
Does it seem to have as much power as it used to have in the lower gears?
I'm wondering if the engine isn't running quite as well as it should be which is causing the vibration.
Fuel filter? Dirty MAF sensor?
At this point I will try anything, I'll replace the filter today. Would the MAF sensor give me a check engine light?
The power seems to be alright in the lower gears.
My 2002 5.6L F150 started to vibrate alot when driving around 70-80 Kph, usually on a warm engine. I did have a Service engine light appear but after changing the air filter and reseting the code it hasn't appeared again but the truck still shakes. It doesn't seem to be engine related as the RPM's don't change when the shudder occurs. It really feels as though the tranny is slipping. I don't know when the fluid was changed last as I bought the truck 2 weeks ago used. What type of fluid does anyone suggest, and any other ideas as to the cause of the vibration? Thanks
Any idea how many miles on the spark plugs? You wont usually see the RPM change if you have a misfire. Is it worse with more of a load on it such as going up a hill?
hey guys, sorry i've been away for a while. my vibration doesn't seem to be coming from the back. more toward the middle, i had a tune up about a year and a half ago. new plugs, new tranny fluid and filter, etc. but the last few months it's been vibrating pretty hard (doesn't do it as frequent but when i does it hits pretty hard) plugs i'd say have about 12k on it. any ideas?
The truck has 170000 K on it, I think i'm the 3rd owner and the records show the first owner took really good care of it, regular tune ups, oil changes etc,I don't think the 2nd owner did anything but drive it alot. I would guess 90000-100000 on the plugs.
Yes, it really acts up when going up hills, even little ones! Please dont get my hopes up by saying it could be just the plugs and not the tranny
