Satellite TV costs.

We have decided to switch to satellite TV, namely Direct. We are fed up with how poorly the cable company treats us out here in the boonies. What I am wondering is what is the "real" monthly cost of this service. They always say this special price...blah, blah, blah. Then after a few months you get some unwanted surprises on the bill. So...how much does it cost for a three room system with the regular (non HBO, Starz, etc.) package /AFTER/ all the special pricing intro deals?

I got direct tv 4 years ago when I got sick of cable. We've got basically the whole package. 4 boxes, service plan, 5.95 per month, all movie channels, local channels, and we just got HD added last week. Our bill around 115.00 per month. Service is great, rarely lose signal for more than 5 mins when a storm comes in. Customer service when you need it is excellent.

My neighbor also has them, but he has the basic set up with local channels , 2 boxes, and service plan also he pays 60.00 per month

Let's face it, unless you just can't afford it or your a cheapskate the monthly bill will be $60 to $100. Sometimes even more for the sports nut.
I started out around $50 and now am at $90 +, and so it goes.
They have a way of putting a little bit of the good stuff in each package so you have to end up ordering all of them if you want the all of good stuff.

I went from DishNetwork to DirectTV about 3 years ago. I am much happier with DiretTV. Go to there website, they have alot of package information.

Yeah When my cable went from 60.00 a month to 90.00 I dropped them like a hot potato and got DirecTV and don't think I could go back now. I got all the movie channals,DVR in two rooms and still under a $100.00 a month. There service has been great, Lost my cable alot more then directv. The only thing I am having problems with is getting the dual tuner working right on the DVR but I can tell you we haven't rented a movie since we got the dvr box.I forgot to mention I was paying the cable bill for digital service for one room with showtime/stars and thats it and customer service sucked. One other thing you must have a clear shot at the southern sky to receive good signal no trees or other thing in the way.If your into sports they have killer packages.

Our Direct tv bill is around 50 a month. We have over 130 channels to choose from and even with that many there are times when there is nothing to watch.
We have a three room system also.

We had Direct Tv, and dropped them in favor of Dish Network. Direct didn't offer our local network affiliates. We have the 4 room, DVR, America's everything package. Its more TV than I ever want to watch, but its about $120 a month.

Just got our Directv bill yesterday, and the price is going up $3/month. They also just raised their rates not too long ago. I may now consider Dish, but will never go back to cable.

Hmm...I have cable and love it. Internet (4M+ down/350K-ish up), dual-tuner DVR (just one), two TVs, all the "extended basic" channels (65? channels), 55 music channels, no premiums, no HD, no upgraded digital channels, for ~$85/mo. And my cable doesn't go out when the wind blows. On top of that, there is pending legislation to deregulate cable and phone, so there could be some competition in a few years to bring the price down.

My Directv doesn't go out when the wind blows either. I might get a little interruption during heavy rain or snow but, maybe about 1 minute at the most.

Here's my bill:
Total Choice Plus-$48.99
Sports Pack-$12.00
HD Package-$9.99
3 Extra Receivers-$4.99 each
Total-$85.95
Plus, I get Center Ice every year. That runs $129 for the whole NHL season plus two rounds of the playoffs. I've also been getting MLB Extra Innings for the last few years and that's about $140 for the season. I also just upgraded from the H10 HD receiver to the H20. It also came with a new larger dish with 5 LNB instead of the previous 3 LNB. It enables me to get my locals in HD plus they just added on TNT HD and will add on more when they send up a new satellite later this year. Also, with Directv, If you get a premium channel package, like HBO, they charge you $12 a month. If you add a second, like Showtime, Cinemax, Stars-Encore or, The Sports Pack, that second one is $11, third is $10, etc. To me, you can't beat Directv.
