if you go with copper, you cannot connect copper to steel, they are bi-similiar metals and electrolysis will occur ( i.e. LEAKING!!) and possibly sour the gas. you would just have to use brass nipples where you connect to your pump/carb with flare fittings.the brass would prevent electrolysis between the metals.
I think the copper is a good idea, I didnt think of that when I plumbed my 77 400 with 3/8" rubber hose... as often as one should change the fuel filter , you would think asn old dried hose would not occur.
