Yes, its called a tuner. Not only does it alter the shifting, but also the performance of the truck. Search around a bit, for the most popular ones here.
I'd reccomend a tuner way before a shift kit on any NA gas truck. On turbo diesels and SC gas trucks, well that's a different story that often requires some type of valve body work and a tuner.
I want to do a shift kit because i have a roush s/c and I am going to install a tranny temp gauge and i figured since I have to take my pan off I might as well put in a shift kit.
I have heard some good things about Factory Tech valve bodies. There is another company named BTS (I think) that is suppose to make some good valve bodies too. Not sure if you want just the kit, or a moded valve body?

kfx400_1124, a tuner would allow you to monitor the transmission oil temp. and help improve shif performance. I have fell in love with my Edge Evolution, used on an 04 with the 4.6.
The Factory tech valve bodys (based off of the 4r70W) probably won't work on the newer trannys that these trucks have (4r70E), but I'm speaking with about %70 certainty. The 4r70E has a lot of upgrades compared to the 4r70w.
Since KFX has a Roush SC, a tuner won't work right out of the box with out custom programming, so that option is out.
BTS makes great modded up whole trannys, but they really deal more in the diesel market, and not so much with the 4r70E trannys. I'm sure that they have a few things but, I'd be leary about them.
I think that your best best is to contact Roush, and see what you need to do if you want a tuner, or a shift kit.
Keep in mind that even if you get a tuner there will be mechanical limitations to how quickly your tranny will be able to shift due to valves and springs in the valve body.
You will not get the full benefit from a tuner unless you get a shift kit in the tranny first. Will you get some benefit with a tuner? Sure. But you'll get a significantly better shift pattern if you get the shift kit first, then the tuner.
Most tuner mfg'ers do not reccomend the use of the tuner and a shift kit. What often happens is that the combination will starve the pump for short periods of time till it burns out.
A tuner does the same thing that the transgo does, it just turns up the line pressure.
Edge says you can run their engine tunes when you have a shift kit installed. You just have to remember to NOT apply the trans tune when you reflash your truck.
