Well, I've got a 77' F-100 with a 400. It hasn't been starting very good lately. You can here the starter turning the flywheel but it won't fire. But, none the less I've got it to start.
Well, today I'm driving it to work and it dies in the middle of driving 3 times. So, I finally get it home and get my other truck.
It was running fine and the truck had warmed up. Then out of no where those 3 times it would stumble and just shut off then my power steering would quit working.
Any ideas what could be wrong with it? The truck would fire back up after dying.
Thanks,
Kyle

Check the ignition module. A parts store can usually test them for free. Also check your timing. If it has changed significantly you may have a worn out timing chain that has skipped a tooth. There is a procedure for testing the ignition system and troubleshooting your engine in any aftermarket service manual.
After messing with it some more, it seems like the carb is flooding itself out. When you give it gas it stumbles. But, the carb settings have not chanegd since I had it tuned and its ran fine for months.
What could cause this? Would adjusting the carb even fix it?
Check to see if the floats are sticking,if the truck has been sitting for a while they might need the varnish cleaned off of them. Hope this helps...FF59
Well... Looks like the acclerator pump broke. Not to mention its leaking gas from aorund the elctric choke area and udner the idle adjustment screw.
I think I'd be better off going with a new carb. This one has seen better days. What do you guys reccommend for performance? I'd like to go with edelbrock.
The link you posted does't take you to a specific carb. Anyway, if you have a 4bbl, which I assume you do by the way you have talked, then an Edelbrock 1406 would be the ticket. Very simple to get running properly. Depending on what mods your engine has you may be able to put it on, adjust the idle speed and mixture and forget it. I use one on my modified 400 and had to change some jetting, metering rods and squirters to get it right, but it did run ok right out of the box.
Holley Model 4160 Adjustable Float Carburetors How does this carb sound?
Yes you are correct it does have a 4 barrel holley intake.
I'll look into the 1406. Had one on my old ramcharger and could never keep it form dying when you'd punch it too the floor. But, that truck had lots of other problems.
