I have a 78 f-150 351M. The problem is that I have high oil pressure with the oil level at normal. The truck blows oil on the right side of the engine compartment where the dip stick and pcv valve are. Can't find leakage after washing engine compartment. After oil blown, oil level 1/2 approx 3 quarts, at which point there is no more oil leakage. Also, there is hardly any oil going down to the oil filter. Oil pump is working in good condition, PCV valve is new and engine runs normal with no hesitation. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this oil leakage? To me it sounds like crank case pressurizing.... HELP!!!!
I dont know what brand your pump is or my friends dad's was but after he put a 327 with all new internals in his @#&vy impala, oil pressure was so high that it blew his pressure gage hose and filled his interior with oil. It buried an 80 psi gage. a new pump was put in and it worked fine. by the way what pressure are you running?
I would recommend pulling the valve covers and checking the oil drainback passages through the heads. If these are blocked even partially, the valve cover will fill with oil and blow it everywhere. Change the pcv valve and oil filter. High oil pressure is not a problem as long as you use a good quality oil filter.
How old is this engine? Generally oil coming out of the dipstick tube is the result of excessive blowby. An example is having rebuilt heads put on a high mileage motor. The new valves seal much better permitting higher compression and the old rings aren't up to the task of containing it. The pressure overwhelms the PCV system and you get oil coming out of the wrong places. I'd suggest a compression check and leak down test to see if you can isolate which cylinder(s) are causing the problem.
I had the EXACT same problem with my Cleveland. It was blowing oil out my dipstick and all over my hood. It was also blowing white smoke out of my pcv valve into my air cleaner out of the right valve cover. The problem.....................blown piston. My suggestion is to compression test your cylinders, find the dud. And pull the piston to check it. I was skeptical at first and low and behold there she was. Fell apart right in my hand I'm surprised it didn't scratch up my cylinder walls. I guess I'm lucky on that one. Just a suggestion anyways.
