engine ID

Can someone tell me how to determine engine size on a F250
'70-something 8 cyl. engine? not the original...thanks.

some things to check, does the thermostat install into the block or the intake? does the intake manifold go under the top of the valve cover and the valve cover bolt onto it? Also pull a spark plug and measure the stroke by putting a small wooden dowel into the spark plug hole and manually with a wrench turn the engine over and measure the highest and lowest the dowel went, if it's 3 3/4 inches between the marks it's a 390, 3 1/2 most likely a 351 352 or 360, 3" 302, and around 3 7/8 a 460

It should say on the front right side of the block, if not cross reference your part numbers, like block casting number, I have a 460 and it is a D1VE, D is 1970 1 is one more year so the block is a 1971, V is the vehichle it came out of, mine came out of a Lincon, T is truck I think, hope this helped you some, this is all I can offer

look on the valve covers for an emmissions sticker , you may have to look hard on 70's trucks, thay get pretty hard to read, that may have the engine class stated on there
