From what I understand now, only the 5.4L got the 9.75 rear end. I don't see why they had to leave the ford 9".

Other than the fact that ford likes to change things (to cheaper parts, normally), is because I believe the 8.8 rears have a more effecient gear mesh. the 9" is strong, but at the angle the pinion is, the gearset is almost like a worm gear.

just wanted to put this out there about the Dana 44. ARB has an air locker that uses 35 spline axles. i have purchase 3 ARBS so far for the dana 44 axles. one of them for my bronco front dana 44 and two for an International Scout II that i'm building.the amount of money spent to build the dana 44 to the level of almost undestructable is comperable to building a quality dana 60 but with a smaller axle housing at the pumpkin
