i used ot for 2 weeks while at my brothers house when he was in Florida... i REALLY like the service... and gotta get rid of AOL or at least speed it up.... but i do kinda like AOL and ive had it forever.... i hate change... this 56K has to go though.

I never understood why anyone would PAY to put AOL between themselves and the internet but... whatever.

I've had Comcast for a couple of years now with good service.

With the self-install kit it is very easy.

I just quit Comcast as they were promising 6Mbps for $44.95 and I could only get 2Mbs. They couldn't fix it, so I went with Verizon FiOS for $49.00 and get 14.8Mbs! That's Mega-bits, not Kilo!!! No contest.

I wasted 2 years paying $55+ for cable internet. I'm now on a DSL package that offers the same speeds for half that. Unlimited local & long distanstance calling + high speed for $70/month ($24/month for the internet) and they tossed in a 4 port wireless "g" router/modem for free. The only way I could justify cable internet is if you plan on getting Vonage to offset costs.

I've had cable for years and am getting ready to switch to DSL for the package deals. Every time I see a media blitz from the cable company, they get more customers and my speed goes down. Right now I get between 500 - 750kbps, a crawl compared to what it used to be. I think DSL will be both faster and cheaper.

But over dialup? Don't think I could handle dialup anymore.

I had to use dialup last November while in Vegas, I nearly went nuts!!! I use Time Warner Cable which is Road Runner in this area but my service is thru Earthlink. -Figure that one out! I use http://www.voip.net for my phone service. It works well with unlimited everything and the phone is only $20 per month WITH NO EXTRA FEES (Phone BULL) tacked on that inflates the true cost. The cable cost is too high and I have noticed slowdowns due to added users. If you can get it try some of the newer broadband services that use fiber optic cable. My net phone is not tied to a specific broadband ISP provider so I can use it on whatever service I choose. I don't know if the phone will work over ADSL tho and I would be tied back to Ma Bell with that so I rule that out. I am too far away from a CO for great ADSL service also.

With whatever service you use check your speed monthly to make sure you are getting what you are paying for.

http://www.toast.net/performance/
http://www.internetfrog.com/ <--easiest and simplest test.

Download 4.82Mbps
Upload 421Kbps

My speed is capped by my modem settings controlled by the cable company. I was uncapped for a week or so due to an error once and life was sweet.

I had Comcast for years without any problems. My monthly charge just for internet plus modem was $49.00 a month. The cable television (basic package was $45.00 a month on top of the internet charge).

I just switched to Verizon DSL. I can't see any difference in speed. Although I can see spending $29.00 amonth for it!!
With what I saved with Verizon, I now have Digital HD Cable from Comcast.....for $56.00 a month. It all boils down to what you want to spend for what type of service.

MY 2 cents...

I paid about 40 a month for the first 6 months. Now I pay about 60 a month, but for 6Mbps, I'll pay the extra.
