I have an '80 f100 300I6 with a 1bb carb. The air cleaner on this is a real chore to get into.
Any ideas on what aftermarket air cleaner and carb to use? Would a carb from a 302 2bb or 289 work? I'm tired of fighting this air cleaner. It takes to wrenchs just to get the darn thing off the carb. Thanks for the help.
Yours by your description has the heavy duty air cleaner my 86 Ford van uses it and yes it is a pain. My 1984 F150 has one the is simple and straight forward one wingnut bolt on top and it is off. So I would suggest going to the bone yard and see if you can find one from that era.
Thanks for the tips. I'll look in a boneyard. I've tried after market aircleaners. after installing the adapter kit onto the carb, the aircleaner was too tall for the hood to shut. Maybe a different carb is in order.
I welded some wing nuts to the bolt heads on my stock setup. Works real good, even marked the top and bottom parts of the air cleaner so I just glance at it when putting it back together.
The Air Cleaner off of a '65 F-series, w/ a 4-v fits rather nicely & uses the wingnut attachment as well, install an Offenhauser "DP" Intake w/ a Holley 390cfm carb & a 2-into-2 Header so that you can make the 300 I-6 Breathe as it supposed to for best performance using just bolt-ons.
