wondering if any one would know how to hook a an aftermarket tach in my 91 ranger? the truck has the 4cyl with 2 plugs per cylinder. typically there would have to be multiple connections with a diode isolating the independant coils for an accurate signal. however i wondered if there was a "tach" output off the ecm even though the truck wasn't equipped with the factory tach?
Actually...there was just a post about this a while back.
Buy an aftermarket tach, mount it how you want. Hook up power and ground wires, and the light wire. The signal wire goes to a wire going to your ECM, the ECM knows how fast your engine is going whether you have a tach or not. I want to say pin 49, but don't quote me on it. If you look back a couple of days there is a post about this.
