Hey folks, I'm wondering where/how I can find out what my transmission, front axle and rear axle codes are. Do I just look on my transmission and axle, is so, where on them? Thanks,
Derek
I take it that we are talking about a 4x4? The front and rear axle tags are located on the diff. cover bolts. Sometimes you have to put a little elbow grease on there and clean them a little. Not knowing the year of your truck, on the drivers side, end of the door, there is a tag that has all the info on it. You will have to decode it, so type it here and someone will help you out. This is for a '73 through '79 that the tag is on the door. Hope to help, good luck. Rob
Thanks, I found the rear axle code after a little wire brushing. It is a '76 F-150 Ranger 4x4 with a C6. I still don't know what kind of engine it has though. Originally it had a 360, but the place that smogged it said it was a 390, although this is not a very repitable shop. Well, thanks again.
Derek

The "R" in the VIN is the assembly plant code (San Jose); The "Y" in the VIN is the engine code (360-2v).
