Ok I went and did it!

And all I have to say is WOWOWOWOOWWOWOOWWOW.
This is the smoothest my 1969 F250 390cid has ever ran!
The large cap and wires are next. I already have a Accel chrome coil for points.

Find out what CFM carburetor you need use this program.

I've been thinking of doing that to my 390. Thanks for letting us know how it worked for you. Did you have any problems? What plugs and gap are you using? Did you readjust your carb? Just a few questions I have been wondering about. I'm sure I'll get mine done this summer.

LAST EDITED ON 08-Mar-01 AT 02:04 AM (EST)[p]It took about 10 min's to install.
Plugs are autolite 42's gapped at .040" (Put in about 6 months ago).

Coil resistance is 2 ohms.

No re-ajusting required on the carb. My carb is tweaked as much as it will get. Holley 350 cfm 2BBL .055 jets, 4.5 power valve sitting on a 1" 2bbl to 4bbl adaptor.

Getting ready to install a reworked Holley list-4548 450cfm 4bbl and a 1" 4 hole carb spacer on my truck.

Thinking about tring the side gapped trick on the plugs just to see what it does :-)

I did my 68 F100 (360) on Monday...No problems at all..I did adjust the timing a touch. Took the advice I received on this forum and adjusted to 10 BTDC but that seemed a touch slow so I have it set a bit higher...Runs like a top!

Due to limited budget, I can't do all of this at once. What order should I do them in? What is overkill? I have no particular allegiance to any of these, and am open to all suggestions. My 360 w/ Edelbrock performer and 1406 is extremely susceptible to flooding.

MSD 6a ignition control
MSD blaster coil
Pertronix (or Ford) electronic ignition
bigger distributer cap? (is this just to provide room for the ignition?)
plug wires (8.5mm?)
new plugs

new plugs <<<

1. Carb flooding Check the float level and the fuel pressure. Edlebrock says nothing over 7 psi will work!!
2. I would go in this order

5>>MSD 6a ignition control (maby 140.00 shop around!!)
4>>MSD blaster coil (30.00)
1>>Pertronix (or Ford) electronic ignition (70.00 PERTRONIX MOD.)
2>>bigger distributer cap? (is this just to provide room for the ignition?) (12.00 copper terminals)
3>>plug wires (8.5mm?) (35.00)
3>>new plugs (10.00)

Thanks for the input. I need to get a fuel pressure gauge and check that out. I ought to check my vaccuum while I'm at it. Any advice as to what kind of gauges to get?

I'll put Pertronix at the top of my wish list...
